In this section, Make Every WomanCount (MEWC) has gathered initiatives that are happening in the local, national and international level related to Women in general and particulary African Women. The announcement section includes a range of activities from individuals, Organisations such as surveys, primary research and dialogues with policy makers, petitions, conference, demonstration, opinion, Statement, Call for papers, etc..
The section aims to be a resource for all different types of opportunities to engage women in women’s rights issues.
Individuals, non-governmental organizations, groups and networks are invited to submit written communications—including, but not limited to, complaints, appeals and petitions—to the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) with information on alleged injustices and human rights violations against women in any country.
As part of our African Women’s Decade 2010-2020 Campaign, Make Every Woman Count is pleased to present our African Women’s Day event for July 31, 2012 entitled: Let’s MakeRuralWomenCount.
We, the representatives of Women and Youth organizations and networks working on women and youth development issues, gathered on the 20 – 21 May prior to the Ministerial Meeting and the Global African Summit of Heads of State and Government, at a Women and Youth Global African Diaspora Dialogue, in Pretoria, South Africa from 20 to 21 May 2012.
The Center for Reproductive Rights and Rwandan advocates are calling on President Paul Kagame to sign into law a new penal code that would remove criminal penalties for a woman who terminates her pregnancy and for doctors who perform abortions in cases of rape, incest, or forced marriage, or to preserve the life and health of the woman.

A 20-year old Sudanese woman was sentenced to death by stoning on 13 May, on charges of adultery. She did not have access to a lawyer during her trial, and was convicted based on testimony she gave after being beaten by her brother. She is being detained with her baby. She in psychological distress and does not understand the nature of her sentence.
The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) has launched the first ever Wangari Maathai Award to honour and commemorate the impact of this extraordinary woman who championed forest issues around the world. The award in the amount of USD20,000 will be given in recognition of outstanding contributions made by an individual to preserve, restore and sustainably manage forests and to communicate the key role forests play in rural livelihoods and the environment across generations.
