The Oromo People's Democratic Organization (OPDO) Women League Tuesday held its 3rd conference focusing on the need for strengthening the ongoing efforts to ensure women participation and benefit from the developmental activities through addressing good governance and rent seeking problems on Tuesday in Adama.

 

“The League registered exemplary result in enhancing women's participation in all sectors as well as in eradicating poverty and contributing to the implementation of the Growth and Transformation Plan.”

In his opening remark, Oromia State Chief Muktar Kadir said that under the past dictatorial regime, women were only allowed to do household chores and child care but at this very moment the government encourages women empowerment and their participation in all fields thereby making contributions to the country's development in all sectors.

“The League registered exemplary result in enhancing women's participation in all sectors as well as in eradicating poverty and contributing to the implementation of the Growth and Transformation Plan.”

OPDO women League Chairperson Konjit Bekele said that the conference is to strengthen the ongoing efforts to ensure women participation and benefit from the current developmental opportunity as well as to address lack of good governance and other impeding factors for the realization of woman's rights."

"The conference also aims to assess limitations as well as put forward ways for the continuation of the democracy building we embarked on and mobilizing all women so that they can fully participate leadership,political participation and Parliament positions,” she added.

According to her, the League is playing a great role in empowering women and able them to fully participate in all aspects as well as maximizing their benefit from the ongoing development.”

The Amahra National Movement ANDM Women League representative Saba Berhe on her part said that the League is a manifestation of the recognition of women rights and women role in every aspect of the development and social life.

It was learnt that since its establishment 7 years ago, the League has been working particularly on encouraging women in improving their living conditions.
