The Women In Sports Association of Ghana (WISA), a non-governmental organization for the promotion and projection of sporting activities involving women would be launched in Accra on September 27 at the Trinity United Church at Legon.
This newly formed Association is emerging to support sports women in all disciplines, not forgetting the women of Keep Fit Clubs and the Physically Challenged women in sports.
According to the Executive Secretary Madam Gloria Commodore, a veteran journalist and sports person, the Association was registered in January 2014 at the Registrar General’s Department with permission to operate in February.
“We have a Certificate of Incorporation and Certificate to commence business to help and support Sports women of all ages. The objective for the establishment of the Association is: to implement sports for the benefit of sporting women, to organize sports women and bring them under one umbrella, to plan an educational programme on health, cultural and social, to register and inaugurate all WISA (NGO) Representatives across the Regions, to issue members with an ID and Membership Cards, accompanying Constitution for guidelines and register every member by filling WISA (NGO) Forms for records. Our motto: Empowering women through sports and supporting them to achieve great success” she expressed to yours truely.
According to Madam Commodore, the Association will set programmes throughout the Regions with the support of Regional Representatives, already in place and will organize activities and plan educational programmes, competitions, seminars etc; and have requested the support and blessings from all the stakeholders of sports as they have female members.
“The Sports Writers Association Ghana (SWAG) will be the umbrella for Women In Sports Association. If you want to join us we are in facebook as (Women In Sports Association). You can also register on the day of the Launch at the Trinity United Church forecourt at Mempeasem, inside the Seminary on Saturday 27th September at 7am and become a member” she said.
“Our commitment is to promote women in sports and to encourage them of their usefulness to the Nation. Advise sports women of all ages and to support members during activities to raise their moral, and to congratulate them whether successful or not”
“Support the younger sports women by advising them to get an education and understanding sports to make a career out of. Bring the physically challenged women in sports into focus and challenges they face. Cover most activities by creating sports women Magazine and encourage members to enable them feel comfortable to becoming good sportswomen in the future to support the nation.
Creating awareness of the physical body changes of sports women, that being a sports woman does not make you look like a man and offering them support. An email address has been created to send their problems to which will be answered to ease their frustrations.
