The First Lady, Patience Jonathan, arrived Windhoek, Namibia, on Saturday night to join her counterparts from Africa to examine the status of cancer in the continent.

Jonathan was accompanied by the wives of the governors of Nasarawa State, Anambra and Benue.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent in Windhoek reports that the confab scheduled for July 20 to July 22, under the Forum of African First Ladies.

 

The three-day confab is entitled: “8th Stop Cervical, Breast and Prostate Cancer in Africa’’.

 

The first lady will join other first ladies to examine the status of cancer in the context of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Africa.

 

This will be done with particular focus on girls, adolescents, youths, women and men of reproductive age.

Also, Nigerian High Commissioner to Namibia, Nathaniel Olorunfemi, who received the first lady, said the confab was timely.

 

“This event will afford participants the opportunity to know more about the laudable programmes the first lady has been championing for women and children.

 

“Jonathan is attending as a participant, a supporter, a mover and part of the group of first ladies in Africa that have been supporting the eradication of this disease in Africa,’’ Olorunfemi said.

 

NAN reports that one of the goals of the confab is to discuss and contribute to the development of strategic actions that will help in the reduction of cancer. (NAN)
