Women leaders from Isiolo county have condemned female genital mutilation, terming it dangerous and archaic.
The women said FGM should be shunned by all communities regardless of their traditional or religious backgrounds.
They were speaking during the International Women's Day celebration in Isiolo town on Sunday.
Nominated MCA Saadiya Abdi said FGM has been practised for a long time in the county, but has not brought any benefits.
Traditional beliefs associated with the now-illegal practice no longer hold, Abdi said.

She said residents should embark on moral education for their children.
"Our forefathers believed a child from a circumcised mother would lead a decent and blessed life. But that has been proved false because many children get lost to drugs and illicit liquor because they lack moral support from their parents," Abdi said.
Children will lead decent lives when they receive ethical education and are not physically injured, she said.
The MCA said the Isiolo government has pledged to support the fight against FGM.
Joyce Nairesia, Samburu Council of Elders Isiolo branch chairperson, said parents, especially mothers, should be in the forefront in the fight against FGM.
She said mothers play a major role in the growth of the girl child.
"The fight must start with mothers. Let's shape our girls' minds in how to lead decent lives and let's strongly condemn the cut," Nairesia said.
The women pledged to support NGOs fighting FGM among pastoralists.
