The African National Congress sends its condolences to the family of Kayde Williams on their daughter's tragic and untimely passing.
We are saddened by the senseless loss of such a young life and our thoughts are with Kayde's family, friends and the entire community of Bredasdorp as they undoubtedly battle to come to terms with the pain of death revisiting them in such a cruel manner exactly two years after the horrific passing, in similar circumstances, of one of their own Anene Booysen.
The nation's sympathies and commiserations with the Williams family will not lighten the burden of grief felt by the family during this difficult time. It is our hope however that the collective effort of the community, the South African Police Services and all other social partners to get to the bottom of this matter and bring those responsible to justice, will go some way to ensuring that such another calamity does not befall another family in that community and elsewhere. Criminals live amongst us and in our communities. Society has a glaring obligation to root out these elements and to protect the most vulnerable amongst us. The scourge of violence against women and children is a cancer our society should not and must no longer tolerate. We can no longer afford to give lip service to activism to eradicate this plague. Activism against violence on women and children should not be a campaign run for 16 days per year but one lived 365 days of each year. The ANC appeals to those who may have any information not to look away but to act against violence and assist the police in their investigation by reporting such information.
