Many counties are still practising Female Genital Mutilation, the Anti- FGM Board has said. The board's chairperson Jebii Kilimo said FGM is practised extensively in Pokot, Marakwet, Baringo and Narok counties.
She accused chiefs of being reluctant to implement new laws prohibiting FGM. Kilimo said despite the FGM Prohibition Act 2010, the practice is still rampant. She said the law provides for a jail term of seven years or Sh500,000 fine for anyone convicted of an FGM offence.
Kilimo met women leaders in Eldoret town on Monday.
