The 3 Division Special Operation Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Yobe State has denied a report on Friday, of an admission by a soldier at a check point to have slept with a married woman who was accosted at the check point.
A statement from spokesman of the division, Captain Eli Lazarus, said neither did any soldier admit committing the offence nor did the battalion spokesman confirm same, adding however that the battalion sometime last week received a complaint on an alleged case which is being investigated. "The publication is an attempt to smear the good image of the Battalion and the Nigerian Army. Troops of the 3 Division continue to maintain harmonious relationship with members of the host communities they are deployed to protect. It should be known that the battalion and indeed the Nigerian Army have zero tolerance to such acts of indiscipline. The unit will continue to respect human rights in the course of discharging its duties," he said.
