Lagos — The Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday read for the first time a bill for a law to prohibit rape and sexual harassment at work places and other related acts.
The bill is sponsored by the deputy leader of the House, Mrs. Lola Akande, representing Ikeja Constituency II.
Under Section 7 of the bill, if passed, anyone found guilty of sexual harassment shall be dismissed from work, fined N250,000 or jailed for six months.
It also states that any employer who fails to take necessary action to curb or punish sexual harassment when reported to him and confirmed by the employer shall be liable and on conviction compensate the victim as the court may determine.
