A young Moroccan house maid whose dramatic suicide attempt has revived concerns about violence towards women and child workers spoke to representatives from the National Institution for Solidarity with Women in Distress (INSAF), on Tuesday (January 15th), AFP reported.
The 19-year-old woman jumped from the fourth floor of an apartment building in Casablanca. A young man was killed while catching her as she fell. The incident was filmed by a neighbour and posted on the Internet.
According to INSAF President Omar Kindi, the girl was employed as a domestic worker since the age of 14.
"Her parents refused to receive her, and then sent her from one employer to another. Wounded and in despair, she tried to kill herself by slashing her wrists," Kindi said.
"This dramatic affair highlights the problem of child domestic workers and its inhumane consequences," he added.
In March, Amina al-Filali, 16, killed herself after being forced to marry her rapist.
