The Joint Task Force [JTF} in Maiduduri, the Borno State capital has refuted media reports that about 20 university female students were killed by suspected members of Boko Haram.

Two national dailies reported yesterday that the ladies were killed between 1 am and 2 am on Thursday while they were asleep in their homes.

Spokesman of the JTF in Borno, Lt-Col. Sagir Musa in a text message to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that the purported killing of the ladies by Boko Haram was not true, adding that the rumour was intended to cause disaffection and crisis in the state.

"There is no truth in the story and it was calculated attempt to cause fresh crisis in the state," Musa said.

The dailies had claimed that the victims, who were wearing miniskirts and trousers, were killed in their separate homes in Maiduguri metropolis by unidentified gunmen.

Before the alleged killing, there were rumours in the town that women and ladies, who dress indecently would soon become targets of attack by terrorists because their dressing violates Sharia rules.
