Mrs. Maina who stated this at the 2011 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and 16-day activism in Abuja also said, “It has enormous social and economic implications, and undercuts the contribution of women to development, peace and security. Furthermore, it seriously jeopardises achievements of the internationally agreed millennium development goals.”
Commenting on this year’s theme, ‘from peace in the home to peace in the world: let’s challenge militarism and end violence against women’ the minister stated that It has been acknowledged that militarisation produces special environment that allows for increased violence against women.
