Four members of the All Political Parties Women’s Association (APPWA) were assaulted during the bloody violence that erupted in Bo on Friday September 9, 2011, an APPWA press release has confirmed.
One of the four victims, Madam Zainab Mansaray, who is a member of the APPWA Regional Coordinating Committee, Southern Region, is reported to have sustained a severe wound on her back and is recuperating in a hospital in Freetown.
According to the APPWA press release, the association clearly reiterated its commitment to promote and protect women’s rights as well as increasing women’s political participation and representation in Sierra Leone.
The APPWA executive members stressed that the recent development in Bo does not create a level playing field for women’s political participation in politics. “We therefore urge all stakeholders, especially political parties to stop the political violence and violence against all women,” the press release added.
The APPWA press release was signed by APC member Haja Ya Alimamy Manso Kamara; NDA member Phebean Henry; PMDC member Massah Bockarie and SLPP member Gertrude Karimu.
