Tunis/Tunisia — The Ministry of Women, Family and Seniors is considering the launch of a national societal dialogue on violence against women to put an end to gender-based crimes, Minister Imen Zahouani Houimel announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a meeting with department officials and representatives of international partner organisations, the minister indicated that this dialogue will bring together government officials and representatives of political parties, national organisations and civil society, according to a department press release issued on Thursday.
This national societal dialogue is expected to culminate in effective recommendations that will be included in a national pact on the occasion of the observance of the National Women's Day on August 13.
"National Women's Day will also be an opportunity to announce important decisions aimed at promoting women's economic empowerment and consolidating their place in society, in addition to protecting them from all forms of violence".
