Source:AngolaPress The Ministry of Family and Women Promotion (Minfamu), the Norwegian Embassy to Angola and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)Wednesday in Luanda signed a protocol aimed at promoting and monitoring efforts focused on empowerment of women.
The project dubbed "Promotion of Angolan Women through the Civil Society Organisations (OCS)," consists in empowering women to better enjoy their political, social and economic rights.
According to Norwegian ambassador to Angola, Jon Vea, the project also covers children who were victims of domestic violence.
The Norwegian diplomat said that women represent an important part in human rights issues.
He noted that the Embassy of Norway is ready to support the pilot project within the framework of existing cooperation.
In her turn, Inês Gaspar, director of Minfamu's Gender Department Policy, said that the United Nations Millennium Goals are aimed at the socio-economic development of states.
"Goals that will only be achieved with the inclusion of women and gender approach", she ressed.
In his turn, Jorge Cardoso, UNDP-Angola representative, said that since the struggle for independence in Angola, women gained a key role in the family, society and State.
Attending the signing were representatives of other organisations of the civil society like Action for Rural Development and Environment (ADRA), Evangelic Congregational Church n Angola, Angolan Association for Education of Adults and UN agencies.
