The Inkatha Freedom Party is shocked by news reports that girls as young as twelve years were kidnapped, plied with drugs and alcohol, and used as sex slaves in Durban.
"Although some of the children have been rescued and will soon be reunited with their families, we are concerned about their physical and emotional well-being," said Les Govender, Shadow MEC for Social Development.
The IFP commends the efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in this case and calls for harsh and swift punishment to be served on those who prey on the vulnerability of children.
"The parents and families of these young children must have suffered severe trauma not knowing their whereabouts and fearing for their well-being. No self-respecting society can silently stand by while the most innocent and vulnerable are abused by avaricious monsters who seek to destroy innocent lives in their quest for financial gain," said Honourable Govender.
The IFP extends its support to their families and wishes for a speedy recovery of those children who have experienced the trauma of being sexually harassed while in custody of the kidnappers.
