Luanda — The Secretary of State for Fisheries, Maria Antónia Nelumba, guaranteed on Monday in Luanda that the Angolan government is working for the women's empowerment in maritime and fisheries sectors.
The official, who was speaking at the opening of the seminar "Sectoral of women in maritime, fisheries and aquaculture fields and the establishment of the core of the Organisation of Women in Maritime of Africa (WIMA), stressed that women's empowerment serves for the use of fisheries and aquaculture resources for food security, increase jobs and benefit the future generations of Angola.
She stressed that the sector's challenges require more skills and training to take full advantage of these opportunities, which can be created by women entrepreneurs, based on knowledge and approval.
The official recalled that this year was established by the African Union as the year of human rights, focusing on women's rights.
Regarding the creation of the core of WIMA fisheries, the Secretary of State said that the fisheries sector has been identified as one of the working areas of the association, with a view to materialising the objectives for which it was founded, as well as including issues relating to self sustained development of the maritime sector.
The event, which ended on Monday, aimed to present the structure of the Association of Women in Maritime and Related Activity of Angola, as well as the core of the Organisation of Women in Maritime of Africa.
