The Seven Summits Women Team who all hails from Nepal is the first female team in the world to climb the highest mountain in each continent. In an epic journey starting from the summit of Mt Everest, the team has climbed successfully in all seven continents.

The seven members hailing from six diverse ethnic backgrounds each have a story of challenge, struggle and success. The mission is about ordinary women in an extraordinary journey demonstrating that everyone has the power climb their mountains be it a real one or metaphorical.

The mission has been supported by Government of Nepal, Nepal Mountaineering Association, United Nations World Food Programme, Lions Clubs International including various organizations and individual donors.

The team has visited over 200 schools and children organization speaking to over 20,000 youth from remote schools in Nepal and Africa to American Universities. They share the team's journey while emphasizing that education is the key to attaining their dreams.

The team believes that outdoor is the best platform to empower. They encourage, support and guide women of all ages to hike, train and explore the outdoors. Engaging men is part of the key as well. They interact in outdoor activities with local women to learn from each other.

In Africa four local women climbed Mt Kilimanjaro with them marking International Women's Day 2013. They have worked with hundreds of women across the world. The team is now institutionalizing scholarship and employment oriented outdoor leadership training program for young women in need.

They consider themselves students of environment and learn about the local environmental impact in each climb. The team firmly believes that any development in education or empowerment is meaningless if environment is not considered along the journey.

Their goal is to start Himalayan Seven Summits Foundation to continue work in the areas of education, empowerment and environment. The vision is to take the lessons and experience of the epic journey to make the world a better place for women and youth while engaging men.

Educational children's book, outdoor curriculum for schools, high altitude female guide training, economic empowerment of women in the adventure tourism sector, and an education scholarship for young girls include future activities.

Shailee Basnet, Asha Kumari Singh, Pema Diki Sherpa, Nimdoma Sherpa and Maya Gurung of the Seven Summits Women Team will be in Jamshedpur on February 19 at Jamshedpur at SNTI Auditorium at 5 PM where they will share their experience. Lions Clubs International will felicitate them on the occasion.
