Source: The Star About 2,050 physically challenged girls in 50 primary schools in Nyanza will benefit from a Sh276 million project.
The three-year project by Leonard Cheshire Disability aims to sponsor the girls' education.
The project is funded by the Department for International Development, through the Girls' Education Challenge.
Project manager Orpa Ogot said the project seeks to address physical and social education barriers girls living with disabilities face.
She said they want to improve awareness on the needs of disabled girls.
"The project's main aim is to ensure the girls complete their primary education and demonstrate learning," she said.
Ogot said they want to improve quality and accessibility of mainstream education and the social inclusion of disabled girls.
She said 150 education officials, policy-makers and media representatives have been trained to uphold the rights of disabled girls.
Speaking in Kisumu during a training on people living with disabilities on Wednesday, Ogot said the project will be undertaken in Siaya, Kuria East, Kisumu East, Migori and Mbita subcounties.
