Source: Nigerian Bulletin The Federal government has on Friday in Rivers state inaugurated the construction of a Federal Junior Model Secondary School in Ogu Bolu Local Council of the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of State for Education and was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
In the statement, Chief Nyesom Wike, Minister of State for Education laid the foundation stone of the construction in line with the President Goodluck Jonathan's transformation agenda to improve basic and secondary education in the state.
Wike noted that the President's All Girls' Schools Initiative was introduced to grant the less privileged children access to basic education.
"Realizing the enormity of the girl-child education challenges and its threat to the nation's quest for the attainment of education for all.
"The construction of girl child schools is to empower a critical segment of the society.
"I am convinced more than ever before that the construction of these only girls model schools, will not only remove fear of parents.
"Who for security reasons, will not allow their girls to go to school but will also build confidence of the girls", the minister said.
It stated that FG Federal Government through the directive of President Jonathan has intervened in over ten secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of the State.
However, Dr Yakubu Gambo, who represented the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), assured the host community that the school will be completed in record time.
