Malawi will on Tuesday launch a five-year National Girls Education Strategy (NGES) to guide interventions for the enrolment of girls as well as the creation of a conducive environment to allow them to excel in school.According to a statement from Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the ceremony will also be used to launch a National Girls Education Communication Strategy (NGECS).
The ministry said the NGES was commissioned to facilitate the pace at which Malawi may achieve Millennium Development Goals on universal primary education, and gender equality and women empowerment.“The strategy serves to guide girls’ education programming, resource mobilisation, allocation, utilization, reporting as well as coordination and measurement of progress towards meeting the national and Education for All goals,” it said.
The statement said the strategy has been designed to promote girls education by addressing barriers that prevent them from accessing and participating in education as effectively as boys.
The strategy is expected to strengthen actions from civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, front line ministries and academia in its implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
