The British Department for International Development (DFID), is to sponsor 350 female students from Zamfara to study various courses at the state College of Education in Maru.
The Provost of the College, Alhaji Kabir Dankande, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Maru.
Dankande said the intervention by the DFID was to encourage female education in the state.
He said the students were selected from the 14 local government areas by the organisation in collaboration with the state government.
According to him, the beneficiaries would sign an undertaking to return back to their communities to teach after graduation.
The provost said the measure would not only increase the number of female teachers in rural areas but also encourage more girls to go to school.
Dankande recalled that the DFID had in 2013 sponsored 100 female students in the college under similar arrangement.
He commended the organisation for its commitment towards the promotion of education in the state, especially at the grassroots.
