Microsoft Africa has teamed up with the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association (FWEA) and SupaMamas organization to train women in small and medium enterprises on using Microsoft tools to grow their business.
Over 70 business women in the SME sector on Friday received training from the computer software giant on how to use simple Microsoft IT tools to boost their enterprise.
"Women do a lot of business but they do not make money, their contribution to the GDP has actually been pretty small, so we realized we need to upscale the playing field in which they are interacting, so that they can be working at higher levels," FWEA chairperson Joanne Mwangi said at the first training event at a Nairobi hotel.
She added a big impact in expanding their market with the new knowledge in creating online networks will be promoted by the initiative while confirming similar exercises will be rolled out in due course.
The key focus was on how to use Microsoft tools such as Office 365, a cloud service that brings together Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint Online, Microsoft Exchange Online and Microsoft Lync Online at a fixed monthly cost.
The event dubbed 'Build Your Business' took the determined women through various ICT topics on the latest innovations in technology and opportunities in the sector.
"By bringing together women from various SMEs across the country, Microsoft hopes to significantly increase the number of women entrepreneurs using technology tools to manage and grow their businesses," Clare Mungai the head of the Microsoft Women of Organization denoted.
The event was organized under the banner of Microsoft Women of WECA (WOW) which helps women excel in ICT and also build their businesses without necessarily investing too much on ICT tools and Supa Mamas, a marketing and events company which brings together business women from different backgrounds to inform, connect and inspire mothers in Kenya by exposing them to opportunities available to grow their enterprise.
