In a bid to turn entrepreneurs’ ideas into viable businesses, the Women’s Entrepreneurial Centres of Resources, Education, Access and Training for Economic Empowerment (WECREATE) has trained 500 women.
The WECREATE Zambia project is a partnership between the United States (US) State Department Global Entrepreneurship Programme, African Women’s Entrepreneurship Programme (AWEP), Caterpillar Foundation, StartUp Cup, and ELIF Business Solutions Limited.
American Ambassador to Zambia Eric Schultz said at the closing ceremony of the one-week training of WECREATE last week that out of the 500 entrepreneurs, 210 will be selected to participate in the seven-month WECREATE’s challenge business model competition scheduled for October 11, 2015.
Mr Schultz said, “The US mission in Zambia is committed to emphasising the need to create an open and conducive business climate for entrepreneurs, local companies and foreign investors to thrive and spur economic growth… [We are] honoured to support entrepreneurship, prosperity and economic growth in Zambia.”
He said entrepreneurs will participate in WECREATE’s monthly networking event, focused on citizen economic empowerment through entrepreneurship before the closing of the competition.
Champion for the Zambia Federation of Associations of Women in Business (ZAFWIP) Nancy Kawandami will present the association’s woman of the month award followed by a keynote presentation by the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission.
