The fourth Annual Women's Leadership Conference, organized by the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE), is slated for October 16th in Kampala.
This year's Conference will be different from the previous three, as it will officially launch the United Nations Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) in the country.
The WEPs are a joint initiative of the UN Global Compact and UN Women offering practical guidance to business on how to empower women.
"We are asking CEOs to come to the conference and sign on the CEO statement of support to the principles. It would be good to have a set of eminent CEO to sign on and commit their company support to the empowerment of women at the work place," Eng. Martin Kasekende, the Chairman of the UN Global Compact in Uganda told New Vision in an interview.
"One should know that these principles were primarily developed for the business community, however, other civil society organisations, and even governments have embraced them as a tool for engaging with the private sector and reviewing their own practices," he says.
The GC Network Uganda's main role now will be to help these companies to translate and integrate these into actionable strategies by organisations that sign on them.
The conference will be held under the theme: "Women Empowerment: The Business Case for Women in Leadership," the conference will bring together women from various institutions and at different levels to deliberate on issues pertaining to women in leadership in the corporate world.
