Kitwe government has disbursed K200,000 empowerment funds to five women groups in Chililabombwe, district commissioner Stuart Chitumbo has said.
Mr Chitumbo said in an interview yesterday that over 100 women will benefit from the empowerment funds.
"I am happy to announce that last month, Government released funds to empower women in my district," Mr Chitumbo said.
Mr Chitumbo said the Government is committed to the economic empowerment of women and creation of opportunities aimed at improving their livelihood.
"Government recognises the role that women play in society. They are important stakeholders in national development," he said.
He said the women of Chililabombwe are happy with government's commitment to eradicate poverty in the communities.
He appealed to the women in the district to join women's clubs to benefit from various programmes that the Government is implementing under the Ministry of Gender and Child Development.
