President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will attend the African Summit that was scheduled to be held on Jan. 29 to 31 in Addis Ababa, presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef stated Sunday.
The 24th session of the African Union summit take place from Jan. 23 to 31 under the theme of "Year of Women's Empowerment and Development towards Africa's Agenda 2063," according to the AU official website.
Sisi attended the 23th session African Union Summit meetings in Equatorial Guinea in June after it unsuspended Egypt's membership. Egypt was originally temporarily barred from the group following the ouster of former Islamist Mohamed Morsi by the Army on July 3, 3012 after mass protests called for the end of his regime.
Sisi also met with several African leaders at the U.N. General assembly in September to discuss future partnerships.
Sisi has underscored Egyptian-African relations since he was inaugurated in June, as the country did not seek strong African commitments in the last years of former President Hosni Mubarak's rule.
