The National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) recently presented fertiliser, vegetable products to different youth and women groups, at a presentation ceremony held at NEDI office.
Mustapha Badjie, Enterprise Development Officer, on behalf of NEDI Coordinator distributed the items to beneficiaries in CRR North and LRR.
The National Enterprise Development Initiative had submitted a request to WAAPP for the support of youth and women in vegetable gardening; and subsequently the request was granted and supported with 40 bags of fertiliser and different varieties of seeds, such as onion, cabbage, sweet pepper, tomato, eggplant, and a knapsack sprayer and buckets.
These women and youth groups depend on seasonal gardening as the only source of income and getting seeds and fertilisers are critical in sustaining garden projects. The items were distributed mainly to existing gardens, youth and women representatives, village alkalolu, and ward councilors at an occasion, witnessed by the Ministry's youth coordinator. At Jambajelly in Kombo south in the West Coast Region, Alkalo Nuha Jammeh, who received the items on behalf of his community, thanked NEDI, noting that their main target is to engage youths in all activities. He thus urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the donated items for the benefit of all.
Mahmoud L Jawla, youth coordinator of WCR said that as an arm of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, they felt that there is no bigger enterprise than agriculture. According to him, they have a key role to play in supporting agricultural development, saying that "if it is developed, eventually all other enterprises will be enhanced. This is because we all know the importance of agricultural production and productivity." For his part, Ablie Sowe, the VDC chairman of Nyofelleh, who described the occasion as a day of joy, encouraged the beneficiaries to redouble their efforts for the development of the nation. Ansumana Jatta of Berending also thanked NEDI for the initiative, which he said, is very helpful.
