The staff of the Yola branch of Fidelity Bank Plc has renovated two workshop blocks and donated sewing machines to the Women Development Centre in Yola, Adamawa state.
The donations were made through the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the bank, a statement from the bank said.
Commissioning the project, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Mohammed Hayatu said that the bank has blazed the trail in corporate social responsibility in the country.
She said the bank's donation will go a long way in alleviating poverty and empowering women in the state.
Presenting the equipment on behalf of the Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, the General Manager, North Bank, Mr. Idris Yakubu, explained that the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP) is the bank's platform through which the staff of the bank initiate and execute projects in communities using funds contributed by themselves, and with matching funds from the bank.
He said the bank has drilled water bore holes, rehabilitated prisons, developed medical centres, supplied catering and tailoring equipment, renovated schools and embarked on other poverty alleviation projects nationwide through the FHHP.
