Among the women clubs that have received the hammer mills were, Ombela-umo-ombela, Kapena, Kasonge, Lubunda,Chilolo, Kankomba and Buyantanshi which is being run by blind women assisted by their blind male counterparts.
Mwense District Commissioner (DC) Victor Kasuba said in an intertiew yesterday that, the donations were made by Mwense Central Constituency Member of Parliament David Mabumba during the commemoration of youth day early this week.
Mr Kasuba said the recipient groups were so grateful to the gesture that the Government had done to them as they would now be able to use the hammer mills to raise funds for their clubs and subsequently support themselves in improving the economy of the district.
He said the donated items would be useful to the local communities in two folds as the local communities will now have where to grind their cassava and maize, while on the other hand, the members of the club would earn a profit through the surplus monies that they would be raising from the same project.
Mr Kasuba added that, the donations came at a right time as majority of the women in the area had changed their mind set and only depended on the Government to give them everything for free, but they had realised that they needed to work very hard in order for them to uplift their living standards.
The DC said because of that change of mind set, he was hopeful that they would work hard to put all their donations to good use to benefit them and their families as the surplus that would be raised from their clubs would be shared among themselves and their households.
Mr Kasuba further cautioned the recipient clubs to put stringent security measures in place as the hammer mills and poultry equipment were vulnerable to thieves especially those from a named neighbouring country.
He the Government had spent a huge amount of money to procure the items and it would not be good to have them stolen.
