The international community will gather in Cancun, Mexico, from 29 November to 10 December 2010 for the next round of negotiations at the Conference of Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

UNIFEM (part of UN Women) and its partners stress that the response set out in a new climate agreement must be gender-sensitive. Women must also be equal actors and benefactors in the climate change agenda in order to successfully mitigate and cope with climate change. To ensure women’s concerns and interests are identified, valued and included, UNIFEM and other Global Gender and Climate Alliance members are working to raise awareness on multiple gender dimensions of climate change as well as provide briefings and technical support to Parties at the conference.
