Boda boda riders and fishermen in Usigu division of Bondo subcounty are to blame for increased cases of pregnancies among schoolgirls and school dropout in the area, an official has said.
Bondo assistant deputy county commissioner Samson Akatch said the operators and fishermen use money to lure the girls into sex. He said the number of girls in most schools along the beaches is declining, citing Kanyibok Primary School in which 13 girls in standard eight were confirmed pregnant last year.
Akatch was speaking yesterday at the school during a public baraza on girl-child awareness. He said the district security team will form a panel to vet operators and fishermen operating in the area to weed out immoral ones. The administrator asked the public to trust security officers and provide them with information that may lead to the arrest of offenders.
