As part of its efforts at sensitizing Nigerians on issues of maternal and child health, the National Council of Women's Societies in Nigeria (NCWS) has rolled out plans to take campaigns to the 774 local governments in the country.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, president of the council, Nkechi Okemini Mba, said the women body was concerned by the way maternal health was relegated to the background, especially in the rural areas, resulting in many preventable deaths.
"There have been growing concerns for infant mortality and other diseases like polio, DPT, yellow fever, diarrhea etcetera and the need to provide marching action informed our decision.
"NCWS is set to be at the fulcrum of mother and child care chain by providing the Nigerian health sector with the basic tool kits to fast-track the delivery of MHC projects to the grassroots," she said.
