Esther Madudu is one of the many midwives working in the rural areas of Africa who are facing many day to day challenges such as lack of electricity and running water, among other things.

Esther's passion and dedication for saving lives did not go unnoticed. The African Medical and Research Foundation or AMREF made her the face of the 'Stand up for African Mothers' Campaign' where she was nominated for the 2015 Nobel Prize.

However, lack of technology hampers the work of midwives like Esther. Now the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is improving the work of midwives through the use of mobile technology – calling it – the Mobile Miracle.

On the line from the Atiriri Health Centre IV of the Soroti district in Katine subcounty, Uganda, Esther explains to Beng Poblete-Enriquez the challenges that she encounters in carrying out her work.
