Political will is crucial to Nigeria's plans to ensure that 13 life-saving commodities recommended by the United Nations to save one million lives in Nigeria by 2015 are available in health facilities, says the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).
"In Nigeria, it is not an issue of financing per se, it has to political will and commitment," UNFPA resident representative Victoria Akyeampong said at a consultative meeting in Abuja.
President Jonathan and Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg co-chaired the UN commission said reproductive health commodities alone could avert nearly 230,000 maternal deaths.
