Morogoro — PREGNANT women have been urged to eat healthy food to protect their unborn babies from disabilities.
The call was made over the weekend by American doctors, who are providing free medical services to people with disabilities in Morogoro Region, and said other disabilities are caused by lack of nutrients during pregnancy.
Dr Sayyida Abdus-Salaam said that during pregnancy women should change their eating habits and increase nutrients in their daily meals to make sure are enough for their bodies and for unborn babies.
"Disabilities are caused by different things but pregnant women have to protect their babies from disabilities by eating foods which are rich in vitamins, protein and carbohydrates," she said.
Three medical doctors from America are in Morogoro for two weeks attending people with disabilities under the sponsorship of Journey To Your Promised Land (JTYPL) Organization and Nashera Tourism Hotel.
Speaking on that doctors' trip, the Manager of Nashera Hotel Mr Benson Nabora said the plan of his hotel is to participate in solving community problems.
"Nashera is not only a hotel but also a community friend, we would like to see our surrounding communities having good health, education and other important services," Mr Nabora said. More than 500 people with disabilities are expected to be attended, treated and advised on how to address their problems.
A total of eleven villages of Makuyu, Ifumba, Bogoti, Dimbamba, Mvudeni, Mpapa, Hembeti, Misufini, Dihombo, Mkindo and Mvomero are expected to benefit from the doctors.
