"You have shown your courage by overcoming the gender stereotypes; you are a strong role model to women, encouraging them to pursue their ambitions, as well as to little girls, emboldening them to aspire to higher heights in their future career."
The Minister of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie-Aurore Perraud, thus extended words of praise, recognition and encouragement to the first ten Women Traffic Police Constables during an Award Ceremony held in Port Louis today. The women had recently reinforced the riders' team of the Traffic Branch of the Mauritius Police Force.
Welcoming the deployment of the ten women traffic police constables, a first in Mauritius, the Minister stated that she was proud and privileged to celebrate these pioneers that are paving the way for other women to follow. She congratulated the constables for their skills and determination, and stated that they have shown that in their duties and responsibilities, they are as competent and conscientious as men.
The Minister also advocated for more women to take their rightful place in society. While commending these women who have broken the glass ceiling by pursuing their career aspirations in the Police Force and Fire Services, the Minister appealed to male-dominated profession to work on changing the gender imbalance and the integration of women into these jobs.
