A tough battle is looming for the race Narok women's representative seat after the daughters of the former MPs get the tickets for March 4, general elections.
Soipan Tuya is the daughter of former of Narok South MP Samson Tuya while Lydia Masikonde is the daughter of the outgoing Narok North MP William ole Ntimama. Ntimama and Tuya are long time political friends.
Soipan beat former Narok County Council vice chairperson Agnes Pareiyo to clinch the URP ticket while Masikonde was nominated unopposed in ODM.
Masikonde is a former director of Rift Valley Water Services Board while her rival is an advocate of the High Court. Ntimama's daughter has a degree in Tourism Management from Nairobi University while Soipan studied law in the same college and later pursued a Master of Laws degree at the University of Washington, USA.
Masikonde said if elected, she will offer leadership based on social justice and fairness noting that the communal equity in socio-economic development.
The outgoing nominated councillor rose to fame after she beat her male counterparts during hotly contested civic authority committee seats where she was elected chairperson of the powerful Audit committee.
"I am ready to transform this cosmopolitan county, if given the mandate. I promise to prioritise consolidation and enhance resource allocation to ensure equity," she said.
Masikonde promised to help the women and youth and boost education especially for the girls. She enjoys a lot of support from the women and youth.
Her popularity istems from the sober way she approaches issues. Soipan urged the locals to rally behind her to give them a voice in government.
She said women play an important role in society and deserve more leadership opportunities. Soipan vowed to initiate development projects and involve women in them.
Others contestants are former teacher Janet Nchoko (UDF), Eunice Marima (KNC), wife of former Narok North MP Moses Marima, university graduate Mercy Cherotich Tembur (independent) and Agnes Shonko (TNA).
