Luanda — National Executive Secretariat of the ruling party's female wing, OMA, has appealed to all Angolan women to effectively participate in the electoral process, including casting the vote on August 31. On a message, in the ambit of the African Women's Day (July 31), OMA congratulates all African women, manifesting its profound recognition for their contribution to the cause of reconstruction and development.

To Angolan women, reads the message, July 31 has a special meaning this year, because Angola will hold general elections on August 31, and, on the other hand, the Pan-African Women's Organisation is celebrating its 50 years of existence.

"Our organisation is happy about the fact that in the last decades, in various African societies, profound advances have been recorded in relation to the legal and social condition of women, which is reflected on the growing access of African women to responsibility and decision-making positions", reads the note.

The document mentions the efficient leadership of Ellen Johnson, in Liberia, the vitality of Malawi's president, Joyce Banda, and more recently the experience of Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, who took over the presidency of the African Union Commission, as examples that make African women proud.

OMA also hopes that the African governments continue to strengthen the mechanisms for the fight against hunger and poverty, domestic violence and gender inequality, adding that the continent's authorities ought to guarantee a greater involvement of women in the resolution of conflicts.
