The Angolan women assumed prominent role in national politics since the beginning of the country's liberation struggle, said the MP of National Assembly, Emilia Carlota Dias.Speaking to Angop, the MP, who holds the post of second secretary of Parliament table, explained that during the guerrilla there were women who played active role in battlefield tasks.
She recalled the heroines like, Irene Cohen, Teresa Afonso, Engracia Santos and Lucrecia Paim, as well as the queen Njinga Mbandi, amongst the outstanding women.
Making reference to other women who took part in the struggle for sovereignty of the country, Emilia Carlota Dias said some hold currently the ranks of generals and contribute to the reconstruction and development of the country.
Therefore, the MP acknowledged that the post held by women in the country's politics is the results of steps achieved previously by others, whose example should be followed by young women for consolidation of these gains.
