A growing consensus of experts is advocating gender equality for women farmers, who in Africa account for as much as 80 percent of food production. (..) “If we can help give them the education, help them understand the business model and how to actually handle the food, we can help them get back on their feet and enable them to pass these skills onto their children,” says Rene McGuffin, senior spokesperson for Global Issues at the World Food Programme.
