In this section, Make Every WomanCount (MEWC) has gathered initiatives that are happening in the local, national and international level related to Women in general and particulary African Women. The announcement section includes a range of activities from individuals, Organisations such as surveys, primary research and dialogues with policy makers, petitions, conference,  demonstration, opinion, Statement, Call for papers, etc..

The section aims to be a resource for all different types of opportunities to engage women in women’s rights issues.

On Friday the 25th of January 2013, in the midst of large demonstrations marking the second anniversary of the beginning of the Egyptian revolution, horrific sexual crimes were committed against women in and around Tahrir square. Operation Anti-Sexual Harassment/Assault (OpAntiSH) received 19 reports of group sexual assaults against women in the area, which included the use of life-threatening violence in some cases.

UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet today announced USD $12.5 million in grants for 39 new grantees of the Fund for Gender Equality. The grassroots organizations selected are working on programmes ranging from the creation of women’s business cooperatives in Ethiopia, to efforts to improve social protection for migrant women in Vietnam, to training women candidates for the upcoming elections in Mongolia, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay.
